CalWest’s client school in the Greater Los Angeles Area seeks a Physical Education Teacher to start in January 2024.
CalWest Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
- Requisite skills commensurate with the position
- A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
- Authorization to live and work in the United States
Client School Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years teaching physical education in a public school setting is highly desirable.
- Passion for educational equity and enthusiasm for the school mission, model, and design elements
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities, including English learners and students with disabilities
- Experience with backward planning is preferred
- Commitment to high expectations and the ongoing use of assessments to drive differentiated instruction and support
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter with a strong drive to achieve
- Spanish fluency is highly desirable
- Ability to effectively give, receive, and implement constructive feedback toward continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively
- Valid California teaching credential. The appropriate credential for this role is a physical education credential with an EL authorization

Responsibilities
- Utilize school-developed planning templates to develop and refine curriculum maps, culminating projects, rubrics, units, and lessons as needed.
- Create a structured, positive classroom culture that is conducive to learning and promotes a sense of belonging for all students
- Establish positive, caring relationships with students and school stakeholders
- Design and deliver instruction that is standards-based, purposeful, promotes critical thinking and student ownership, and embeds support for learners at different levels
- and frequent checks for understanding
- Gather and use data to tailor instruction to meet individual student’s academic and social needs with a goal of grade level performance.
- Participate in professional learning activities, including curriculum refinement protocols, grade level meetings, department meetings, and regular 1:1 coaching.
- Participate in a (paid) summer institute to develop/refine curricula to support the school’s mission and goals.
- Demonstrate high levels of professionalism, including meeting deadlines and maintaining positive, timely, and effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, families, and students.
- Collaborate effectively with grade level and department teams and special education/resource and English language development teachers to ensure rigor, alignment, and equity of access.
- Serve as an active member of the community on committees to provide support to the school and adherence to the school mission and design elements.
