CalWest’s client school in the Greater San Diego Area is seeking a Chemistry Teacher (Long-Term Substitute) for an immediate opening.
CalWest Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
- Requisite skills commensurate with the position
- A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
- Authorization to live and work in the United States
Client School Preferred Qualifications
- Single Subject Teaching Credential in Chemistry (CA preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA) (required), Master’s Degree (preferred)
- Previous teaching experience (desired)
- Experience working with high school students
- Passionately and effectively teach female high school students
- Possess relevant computer and technology skills
- Be motivated to learn and possess flexibility in a changing environment
- Possess knowledge of evolving instructional pedagogy
- Passion for teaching Science and differentiating for a variety of diverse learners
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Possess a student-centered nature with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Creative and innovative skills that can be used to design engaging instruction
Responsibilities
- Implement the school curriculum for high school Chemistry and Science courses.
- Provide Science instruction aligned with the school Science department’s goals and objectives as well as the assigned course of study.
- Provide learning experiences (i.e., individual, small group, and whole class instruction) throughout the course in a classroom environment that ensures student achievement.
- Differentiate curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet the learning needs of all students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
- Partner with parents and guardians in their children’s education and use technology (e.g., PowerSchool, Schoology) to communicate about student progress and achievement.
- Collaborate with Administration, the Department Chair, and fellow Science teachers as it pertains to the curriculum.
- Regularly assess, evaluate, and report on student progress and achievement, inclusive of progress reports and report cards.
- Support students through scheduled office hours outside of classroom time
