CalWest client school in the San Mateo, CA area seeks a Head Traveling Teacher, to work within a private home setting, beginning in August 2025.
CalWest Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
- Requisite skills commensurate with the position
- A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
- Authorization to live and work in the United States
Client School Preferred Qualifications
- A degree from a top-level university (master’s degree preferred)
- Experience working with gifted or exceptionally talented students, including developing enrichment opportunities and differentiated instruction strategies.
- Will have a strong academic background in one of the following areas (high school or university level): mathematics, computer science, English, and science.
- The ability to create comprehensive reports on the student’s academic progress.
- Ten years of experience supervising and evaluating teachers’ curriculum and instructional strategies.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Educational Team: Manage and oversee the work of other teachers in the home (all from the same organization). Ensure that all lessons are aligned with the student’s educational goals and adhere to high academic standards.
- Curriculum Oversight: Supervise the development and implementation of customized curricula and educational resources for each subject area. Ensure that lesson plans are detailed, well-organized, and reflect the learning needs and interests of the student.
- Lesson Planning and Delivery: Ensure that all lessons are delivered effectively by the team, providing guidance and support where necessary as well as oversight in educational efficacy of projects/assignments/testing.
- Liaise with External Educators and Schools: Seek out supplementary online courses, after school programs, school holiday programs, and summer programs (short-term day camps) that provide challenging new materials for the student. Act as the main point of contact between the organization, home, external schools, and any academic programs. Facilitate communication and collaboration to ensure consistency and continuity in the student’s learning experience.
- Assess Academic Progress: Develop and implement detailed assessment schedules to evaluate the student’s academic progress. Use these assessments to adjust instructional strategies and provide feedback to the family and other teachers.
- Supervise Lesson Delivery: Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching by other educators in the household. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help improve instructional methods and address any academic challenges the student may face.
- Foster a Collaborative Learning Environment: Promote collaboration among the teaching team to ensure that the student receives a well-rounded, formally integrated education. Encourage open communication, teamwork, and a shared commitment to the student’s academic and personal growth.
- Provide Detailed Reports: Regularly provide written, comprehensive reports on the student’s academic progress, including insights into strengths, areas for improvement, and future learning goals. Communicate these updates to the parents and the Head Governess.
- Strategic Planning: Provide a strategic plan for achieving middle school curriculum completion by June 2026, 98th+ percentile scores on specific standardized tests.
- Maintain Professionalism and Discretion: Uphold a high standard of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion in all matters related to the student’s education and well-being. Ensure that sensitive information is handled with the utmost care.
Salary Range
$130,000 – $150,000
