Humanities Teacher

CalWest’s partner school in the Greater Los Angeles area seeks a Humanities Teacher to begin as soon as possible.


CalWest Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Client School Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree; credential or Master’s in a related field preferred. 
  • Experience working with middle schoolers
  • Knowledge: Research-based teaching strategies, Common Core standards, technology resources, smartboard use 

Responsibilities

  • Implement school curriculum for English/Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Use various teaching strategies, including literary circles, writing workshops, vocabulary-building, cooperative grouping, graphic organizers, note-taking, visual aids, projects, technology, etc. 
  • Encourage students to think critically and independently and to express original ideas. 
  • Create an engaging learning environment that demonstrates your own passion and interest in the subject area. 
  • Utilize collaboration strategies and active learning in the classroom. 
  • Integrate technology, art, and writing into the program. 
  • Conduct regular assessments of student performance using a variety of products and clear rubrics. 
  • Work with students of various levels to address their specific learning needs. 
  • Cultivate a positive and respectful classroom environment in which students feel safe, happy, and eager to learn. 
  • Maintain regular communication with parents. 
  • Utilize the school’s learning management software to post assignments and grades regularly. 
  • Participate in professional learning community to promote faculty growth and curriculum coherence. 
  • Provide additional weekly after-school tutorial classes. 
  • Serve as an advisor to one class. 
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned. 

Salary Range

$43,789 – $63,747
