CalWest’s client school in the Greater Orange County Area seeks a Language & Literature Teacher to begin August 2025.


CalWest Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Client School Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English from an accredited college or university. 
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching middle school preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Lucy Calkins is preferred. 
  • Committed to ongoing collaboration with colleagues, administrators, parents, and students. 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external). 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the school. 
  • Highly ethical team player. 
  • High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruption. 
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS office. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with grade-level and exploratory teachers to determine, develop and implement meaningful lessons that fulfill the requirements of the school’s curricular program. 
  • Prepare and implement a fully developed Middle School Language and Literature curriculum that is consistent with the IB Middle Years Programme. 
  • Assist in the selection of books and other instructional materials. 
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. 
  • Ensure that the course of study is modified for multiple levels of academic ability and previous experience of students. 
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of student achievement through formal and informal assessments. 
  • Maintain records of academic performance with online grade reporting and parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as needed. 
  • Accurately account for student attendance. 
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and members of the school community. 
  • Support the School and its mission. 
  • Other duties as required by the Head of Middle School.

Salary Range

$ 64,000 – $ 90,000
