Middle School Humanities Teacher

CalWest’s partner school in the Greater Los Angeles area seeks a Humanities Teacher to begin immediately.


CalWest Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Client School Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree; credential or Master’s in related field, preferred.    
  • Minimum Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ teaching experience; experience working with middle schoolers (age 10-14) preferred.    
  • Knowledge: Research-based teaching strategies, Common Core standards, technology resources, smartboard use

Responsibilities

  • Implement school curriculum for four subjects:  English/Language Arts for Grades 7 and 8 (following Common Core standards); World History and U.S. History, respectively (following California standards)
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies including literary circles, writing workshops, vocabulary-building, cooperative grouping, graphic organizers, note-taking, visual aids, projects, technology, etc.
  • Utilize school’s supplemental technology to enhance student’s independent reading (Accelerated Reader)
  • Encourage students to think critically and independently and to express original ideas.
  • Create an engaging learning environment that demonstrates your own passion and interest in the subject area. 
  • Utilize collaboration strategies and active learning in the classroom.
  • Integrate technology, art, garden, and writing into the program.
  • Conduct regular assessments of student performance using a variety of products and clear rubrics.
  • Work with students of various levels to address their specific learning needs.

Salary Range

$55,354 – $67,792
