Digital Fabrication Technician

CalWest’s client school in the Greater Orange County Area seeks a Digital Fabrication Technician to begin August 25, 2025.


CalWest Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Client School Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Design Technology, Engineering, or related field. 
  • Experience teaching STEM, Design, or Maker Education (PK-8 setting is preferred). 
  • Adept with digital design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and CAD Solid Modeling Software (Fusion 360, Solidworks, Rhino, or similar tools). 
  • Comfortable using and maintaining Digital fabrication tools like 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Vinyl Cutters, Embroidery, and CNC is a plus. 
  • Experience in workshop environments and confidence using power tools, including saws, hand drills, and drill presses. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills for scheduling and inventory management. 
  • Ability to manage a dynamic, hands-on learning environment with a focus on creativity and collaboration. 
  • Passion for design, engineering, and problem-solving with young learners. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the school. 
  • Highly ethical team player. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, maintain, and support the safe operation of digital fabrication tools (e.g., laser cutters, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, CNC machines) and other Design Center equipment. 
  • Collaborate with faculty to support design-based projects across grade levels and subject areas. 
  • Model best practices around tool use, workspace safety, and project planning. 
  • Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting for machines and equipment. 
  • Inspire and guide students and teachers in using tools and materials with confidence and creativity through workshops and training. 
  • Help build a culture of design thinking, iteration, and intentional making. 
  • Stay current with new tools and technologies and be eager to learn and grow alongside the community. 
  • Support the School and its leadership. 
  • Other duties as required by the Director of Design, Director of Technology, and Head of School. 

Salary Range

$ 60,000 – $ 65,000
