The Director of Student Life is responsible for overseeing a student life program that realizes this mission and vision by ensuring students’ personal growth, social-emotional development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with teenagers and has a demonstrated commitment to building authentic relationships with individual students, student leaders, and student groups that encourage cohesiveness, agency, voice, and inclusivity. This position will be combined with classroom teaching or other responsibilities. The Director of Student Life reports to the Assistant Head of School.

CalWest Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Client School Preferred Qualifications

  • Authentic appreciation for adolescents and a deep interest in developing personal and generative relationships with all students.
  • Significant experience designing and implementing programs to promote student leadership development and civic engagement.
  • Effectiveness in managing complex tasks, prioritizing among competing demands for time and attention, and driving projects to completion.
  • Strong problem solving and team building skills.
  • Timely and thoughtful communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Works to develop, implement, and manage policies, protocols, and practices that serve to foster a sense of belonging, safety, and respect among students.
  • Develops programming designed to enhance student leadership skills.
  • Designs and evaluates the advisory program.
  • Oversees extracurricular clubs, building capacity for student leadership and connections to the rest of the program.
  • Oversees student conduct and disciplinary issues, serving as the primary resource for teachers and students with issues related to student behavior. Regularly evaluates and revises, as needed, disciplinary practices at the school to ensure that outcomes are equitable, transparent, and restorative. 
  • Designs and schedules special programs and events for the student body that address student development, health, and wellness.
  • Actively participates in regular student support meetings to proactively address students’ needs and crisis management as appropriate.
  • Works closely with parents to help support their childrens’ development, including holding conferences with parents when appropriate and designing parent education programming.
  • Ensures that programming and practices are rooted in best practice and research.
  • Teaches a class (or equivalent responsibility).

Salary Range

$110,000 – $120,000
