CalWest client school in the San Mateo, CA area seeks a High School Physics, to work within a private home setting, beginning in August 2025.


CalWest Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Client School Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of successful teaching experience at the high school or college level, specifically in science disciplines, with a proven track record of working with advanced or gifted students. (preferred)
  • Test Prep: Ability to prepare students for AP exams.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant scientific field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Teaching Philosophy: Ability to balance rigorous academic standards with a supportive and student-centered approach. Demonstrates commitment to fostering both intellectual and personal growth in a young learner.
  • Classroom Management Training: Completion of recent training or workshops in classroom management and student engagement. (preferred)
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex scientific concepts and provide regular feedback to parents and Head Nanny regarding the student’s progress.
  • Disposition: Patient, empathetic, and approachable with the ability to inspire a gifted student to reach their full potential.
  • Experience working with gifted or exceptionally talented students, including developing enrichment opportunities and differentiated instruction strategies.
  • Strong ability to design advanced science curriculum and deliver creative, engaging lessons.
  • Prior experience in one-on-one tutoring or private education settings.
  • California Science Teaching Credential is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a personalized science curriculum tailored to the student’s exceptional abilities and interests, focusing on advanced topics and enrichment.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction in a variety of science disciplines, including but not limited to biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit the student’s individual learning style, pace, and needs.
  • Provide support for any computer science-related academic work, including homework, projects, exams, standardized tests and AP exams.
  • Collaborate closely with parents and other household caregivers to track progress, set educational goals, and adjust lesson plans accordingly.
  • Provide regular progress reports and feedback, highlighting academic growth, strengths, areas for improvement, and upcoming challenges.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages exploration, critical thinking, and a love for science.
  • Maintain professionalism and discretion in all interactions with the student and family, respecting privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Salary Range

$130,000 – $150,000
