Upper School Science Teacher

CalWest’s client school in the Greater Seattle Area is seeking an Upper School Science: Biology and Chemistry Faculty member to begin July 1, 2023.


Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Relevant, recent experience
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching science is required, with 3 or more years preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, with a science major or related subject area preferred
  • A graduate degree in science, education, or related field preferred
  • A philosophy that aligns with the school’s mission and values
  • The capacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with students
  • The ability to be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning
  • An ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff, students and families in order to maintain constructive and professional relationships
  • A commitment to completing work in a timely and thorough manner while being conscientious about assignments and deadlines
  • A willingness to participate in professional growth/development opportunities
  • Have proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, and Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities for Upper School science courses that facilitate active learning experiences in a student-driven, inquiry-based manner
  • Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
  • Establish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all students
  • Create and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal fall/spring conferences, written communications, and school portal
  • Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth
