CalWest’s client school in the Greater Los Angeles County, is seeking a 1st grade Lead Teacher as a temporary Long-term Substitute to begin now through mid-June 2021.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
  • Requisite skills commensurate with the position
  • A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
  • Relevant, recent experience
  • Authorization to live and work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sound pedagogical skills
  • Strong background in math and reading instruction at the lower elementary level
  • Experience and interest in differentiated instruction and a project-based, constructivist approach to teaching and learning
  • Highly developed writing and organizational skills
  • Background/interest/passion for teaching language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science in a self contained classroom
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong foundation in child development
  • Possess excellent classroom management skills
  • Have passion for personal and professional growth
  • 3+ years teaching experience at the lower elementary level, preferably in an independent school
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related educational field required

Responsibilities

  • Create age appropriate lesson plans
  • Attend and participate in curriculum planning meetings
  • Participate in committee work, faculty meetings, parent coffees and additional duties as assigned
  • Lead parent conferences and maintain weekly communication with parents throughout the year
  • Work in a highly collaborative community to develop and implement a creative and challenging curriculum
  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice and working with a diverse community
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of subject matter and effectiveness in teaching
